Design details

A narrow console table in solid white oak with a lower shelf, built by hand in our Vancouver workshop. At 8 inches deep it suits entryways and hallways, and the lower shelf gives you a place for baskets, shoes or books. White oak is a pale, golden tan hardwood with a tighter grain than red oak, and it's slightly harder.

It measures 50 in long × 8 in deep × 30 in high (127 × 20 × 76 cm) and weighs about 34 lb (15 kg). The top and legs are full 1.25 in thick solid white oak from North American mills, with no MDF, plywood or veneer. The legs join the top with hidden mortise and tenon joints and wood glue, resulting in a sturdy construction with no visible fasteners. We aim to grain match the boards in the top, the edges are softly rounded, and the design leaves room for the wood to move with the seasons.

We finish it with Rubio Monocoat, a natural, non-toxic hardwax oil that protects the wood and brings out its grain and colour. If it ever picks up a mark, you can touch up just that spot, and we include a little extra finish for that, along with felt feet to protect your floors. For extra protection against water, stains and scratches, we can add a ceramic coating on request.

One person can assemble it in under 15 minutes without tools, and it can be put together so it comes apart for a move.

We make it to order in 4–6 weeks, or 6–8 weeks for a custom size, and ship it free across Canada and the US. In Metro Vancouver, we'll deliver and assemble it for free, and elsewhere white glove delivery is available at extra cost. It comes with our 5 year warranty and 30 day return policy.

What kind of assembly is required?

The legs are attached to the table top via mortise and tenon joints, reinforced with wood glue. It should take you no more than 10 minutes to fasten the legs to the tabletop and we provide everything you need.

Do I need to be home to accept delivery?

No, we use UPS and Canada Post so the console table will be delivered just like any other package you might receive

Do I need to book my elevator?

You should not need to book your elevator as we use UPS and Canada Post for most of our deliveries, please reach out if you'd like to discuss your specific order though

Our console tables are made in our Vancouver workshop

What type of wood is used in the console table with shelf?

The entire table, top and legs, is made out of solid white oak

Is there any MDF or plywood in the console table with shelf?

We only use solid wood, there is no MDF, plywood or otherwise veneered wood

What kind of finish is used?

We use Rubio Monocoat, a natural hardwax oil finish that offers protection without VOCs. It is Food Contact Compliant and GREENGUARD Gold certified. You can find more information on Rubio Monocoat's certifications here.

Is the finish safe for pets and children?

Yes, we use a non-toxic finish that is food safe and has 0% VOCs, more information on the finish and its certifications.

Are any chemicals used in the construction?

No, our console tables are built with solid wood then finished with a natural hard wax oil that is non-toxic and VOC free.

Are there any visible fasteners?

There are no visible fasteners as the legs are attached to the top via hidden mortise and tenon joints

Is the tabletop grain matched?

Yes, we strive to grain match as best as possible though please note that every piece of wood is unique and therefore uniformity is not guaranteed.

Is the wood kiln dried?

Yes, the wood in all of our furniture, including the console table with shelf, is kiln dried

Maintenance

How should I clean the console table?

Wipe up spills with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners—use mild soap and water if needed.

How heat resistant is the table top?

Moderately heat resistant, but not heatproof. We advise using trivets or pads for hot dishes.

Can the table be in direct sunlight?

Constant direct sun exposure will change the colour of the wood but not the integrity of the table itself.

Can the table be refinished?

Yes the finish we use (Rubio Monocoat) is intended to make any repairs simple: lightly sand and reapply oil to worn areas if needed
