Dining Chair Styles

Windsor – Spindles and splayed legs set into a solid, sculpted seat; the bow-back shown is the classic. Farmhouse-friendly.
Ladder-Back – Two tall posts joined by horizontal slats, like the rungs of a ladder; traditional and country.
Spindle-Back – Vertical spindles framed by a top and bottom rail; light and airy.
Cross-Back – An X between the back rails; bistro-inspired and relaxed.
Parsons – Fully upholstered with a tall back and clean, straight legs; tailored and comfortable.
Armchair – Adds armrests for extra comfort; often used at the ends of the table.
Cantilever – A continuous bent frame with no back legs: it drops from the front of the seat and runs back along the floor. Modern and slightly springy.
Bench – A backless seat for two or more; easy to tuck under the table and great for kids.
Banquette – Built-in or fixed upholstered seating against a wall; saves space in nooks and corners.
