Rug Size Guide
Living Room
All Legs On – 9' × 12' or larger. Every piece sits fully on the rug; best for large or open-plan rooms.
Front Legs On – 8' × 10'. The front legs of the sofa and chairs rest on the rug; the most common layout.
Coffee Table Only – 5' × 8'. The rug sits under the coffee table only; best for small spaces.
Past the Sofa – Let the rug extend at least 6–8" (15–20 cm) beyond each end of the sofa.
Dining Room
Past the Table – Extend the rug at least 24" (61 cm) past the table edge on every side so chair legs stay on it as you sit down; 30" (76 cm) is roomier. An 8' × 10' rug suits a 72" × 40" (183 × 102 cm) table.
In any room, leave 12–18" (30–46 cm) of bare floor between the rug and the walls.
