Design details

A C-shaped side table in solid walnut, built by hand in our Vancouver workshop. Its base slides under a sofa so the top sits over the seat, close at hand for a drink, book or laptop, while taking up very little floor space. Walnut is a rich, dark brown hardwood with a smooth, flowing grain that mellows to a warmer brown over time.

It measures 12 in wide × 16 in deep × 24 in high (30 × 41 × 61 cm) and weighs about 22 lb (10 kg). The top, sides and base are cut from 1.25 in thick solid walnut from North American mills, with no MDF, plywood or veneer. The corners are mitred and reinforced with mortise and tenons and wood glue, so the grain wraps around each corner and there are no visible fasteners. The edges are square with a light softening, and the joinery leaves room for the wood to move with the seasons.

We finish it with Rubio Monocoat, a natural, non-toxic hardwax oil that protects the wood and brings out its grain and colour. If it ever picks up a mark, you can touch up just that spot, and we include a little extra finish for that, along with felt feet to protect your floors.

One person can assemble it in under 15 minutes without tools, and it can be put together so it comes apart for a move.

We make it to order in 4–6 weeks, or 6–8 weeks for a custom size, and ship it free across Canada and the US. In Metro Vancouver, we'll deliver and assemble it for free, and elsewhere white glove delivery is available at extra cost. It comes with our 5 year warranty and 30 day return policy.

What kind of assembly is required?

The legs are attached to the table top via mortise and tenon joints, reinforced with wood glue. It should take you no more than 10 minutes to fasten the legs to the tabletop and we provide everything you need.

Can I see the sofa side table in person?

You're welcome to visit our Vancouver workshop, near Triumph and Victoria, to see any piece we're working on.

When will the side table arrive?

We build all side tables by hand in Vancouver and deliver them within 4 - 6 weeks

Does the sofa side table ship to the US?

Yes, we offer free shipping to the United States and Canada on all of our furniture, including the sofa side table

Do I need to be home to accept delivery?

No, we use UPS and Canada Post so the side table will be delivered just like any other package you might receive

What if I want to be home to accept delivery?

Please leave us a note when placing your order and we will indicate that a signature is required to deliver your side table.

Do I need to book my elevator?

You should not need to book your elevator as we use UPS and Canada Post for most of our deliveries, please reach out if you'd like to discuss your specific order though

Where is the sofa side table built?

Our sofa side tables are made in our Vancouver workshop

What type of wood is used in the sofa side table?

The entire table, top and legs, is made out of solid walnut

Is there any MDF or plywood in the sofa side table?

We only use solid wood, there is no MDF, plywood or otherwise veneered wood

What kind of finish is used?

We use Rubio Monocoat, a natural hardwax oil finish that offers protection without VOCs. It is Food Contact Compliant and GREENGUARD Gold certified. You can find more information on Rubio Monocoat's certifications here.

Is the finish safe for pets and children?

Yes, we use a non-toxic finish that is food safe and has 0% VOCs, more information on the finish and its certifications.

Are any chemicals used in the construction?

No, our tables are built with solid wood then finished with a natural hard wax oil that is non-toxic and VOC free.

Are there any visible fasteners?

There are no visible fasteners as the legs are attached to the top via hidden mortise and tenon joints

Is the tabletop grain matched?

Yes, we strive to grain match as best as possible though please note that every piece of wood is unique and therefore uniformity is not guaranteed.

Is the wood kiln dried?

Yes, the wood in all of our furniture, including the sofa side table, is kiln dried

Maintenance

How should I clean the table?

Wipe up spills with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners—use mild soap and water if needed.

How heat resistant is the table top?

Moderately heat resistant, but not heatproof. We advise using trivets or pads for hot dishes.

Can the table be in direct sunlight?

Constant direct sun exposure will change the colour of the wood but not the integrity of the table itself.

Can the table be refinished?

Yes the finish we use (Rubio Monocoat) is intended to make any repairs simple: lightly sand and reapply oil to worn areas if needed
